RE: To All Graves and Employment

Nancy has a videotape you can order from NGDF on applying
for Social Security Disability Benefits. They are difficult to get.
Also, there are few doctors who support disabilities based on thyroid
problems because they minimize the sysmptoms.

I worked on disability files for an insurance company and there were only 6
claims for long-term disability based on thyroid problems in the whole
country. Good luck!!!

If they turn you down, you can appeal.
You need to document work activities that you can no longer perform.

Joan-

That's interesting! I had heard how hard it was to get on ss disability but I had no problems whatsoever. Perhaps it was because I had doctors that worked with me and I was in such bad shape. It is a long process tho, think it took two years and lots of paperwork.

RE: To All Graves and Employment

You surely have persistence. I think if you have eye problems, that's
a definite symptom you can document. I've heard of many people unable
to work because of vaious symptoms. A hairdresser who couldn't hold
her arms up because of muscle weakness, a programmer who couldn't concentrate
and a pianist whose hands had tremors. No matter what you do, it can
be affected.

Do you think you'll be able to work again in the future???

RE: To All Graves and Employment

I sure hope so Joan! I sometimes have a couple of weeks where I feel pretty good and things start looking up, then I crash. Have had two good days in the last month. Typically I'll do some work (I do volunteer work with alzheimers) for a couple of hours and then I go home and go to bed the rest of the day. Now feeling depression starting to sneak back in with its ugly head so I guess its time to go back to the doctor.

Trouble is getting myself to do that. I'm in a severe mode of I don't care, I don't even care that I don't care. Ha! I go to the doc, he checks my thyroid levels, they check ok and that's it. Meanwhile I feel like I've been run over by a 18 wheeler.

Sorry for rambling on, really yukky tonight.
