New diagnosis and hi

Hi everyone,
I just recently was diagnosed with Graves although I think my thyroid has been wonky for years and never showed up on blood tests. I'm taking beta blockers for the shaking and heart palps, and just started Tapazole. My endo put me on a very low dose ( 5 mg) because I was worried about weight gain. (This was the only positive result of feeling so crappy all the time, and I'm pretty happy to be at the size I'm at). I started the meds five days ago, and I've already gained 3 lbs. She doesn't want me to do any exercise until my heart rate is under control (I was at resting HR of 100 pbm +). Any ideas? Is weight gain this fast even possible?

Also, has anyone else had a rash from the Tapazole? Muscle aches and pains from the Graves? I've had terrible shoulder pain for months and they thought it was my rotator cuff, but it's in both sides and isn't getting better.

New diagnosis and hi

Hello and welcome! Skin reactions as well as muscle/joint pain can potentially be a side effect of anti-thyroid drugs, so I would definitely mention this to your doctor ASAP.

Some patients do struggle with weight on ATDs (I'm one!), but others do not. The scale can fluctuate for *many* reasons (water weight, time of month, etc.), so it's quite possible that this reading was a fluke.

Take care - and please check back to let us know how you are doing!
