March is National Autoimmune Diseases Awareness Month! The American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA) reports that 50 million Americans have an autoimmune disease. In addition to Graves’ disease and Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, other examples of autoimmune diseases are type I diabetes, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, lupus erythematosis, psoriasis, and celiac disease. On Wednesday, March 28th, the Graves’ Disease and Thyroid Foundation will join forces with AARDA and other members of the National Coalition of Autoimmune Patient Groups to host a briefing for congressional health aides on the financial and emotional impact that autoimmune conditions have on families. Click here for tips from AARDA for contacting your local senator or representative and share your personal story about the impact that autoimmune disease has had on your family and your community.
